Proverbs 29:18
IT’S ALMOST SUNDAY DEVOTIONS
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish:
Explore New Opportunities
Exodus 24:9 “Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel:”
Exodus 24:13“And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God.”
Exodus 24:15 “And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount.”
Is a Public Defender Good Enough?
We now live in an era where, through Jesus, God wants to reveal and manifest himself to the world. In this era, God’s manifested presence is not meant to be rare or uncommon. It’s meant to be poured out everywhere. It’s meant to be a regular occurrence for believers to experience His presence manifested among us.
All these things uphold our freedom in Christ and allow for us to experience God’s manifested presence. Until Christ returns let’s keep walking in these things and in our assignment to help as many as we can to find and experience the freedom we have in Christ.
In the Old Testament God revealed and manifested himself at different times, but generally it was limited to a few and limited to one nation – Israel. In the New Testament we see that through Christ, God has chosen to manifest and pour out His Spirit on all people, from every nation whether young or old.
As a kid growing up, I really did a lot of dreaming. I would think about what I would be growing up, I would think about the lady that would be lucky enough to marry me. I mean the lady that I would be lucky to marry. I would literally dream that I would be in the NBA someday playing the game I loved so much. As kids we dream a lot of dreams. Some come to life; some get put on the back burner and some get forgotten about. Just the way it is.
In 1980 a man by the name of Jimmy Valvano became the head basketball coach of NC State. Much to his surprise and others, he was given the job over several other high-up people. During his first practice with the players, he walked into the gym and told those young men that he would win a National Championship with them. Of course, no one believed this would ever happen. Not even the players. Everyday Jimmy V would tell his players the same thing. He would say “We are going to win the National Championship because that is my dream”. The last fifteen minutes of every practice would be spent with the team practicing cutting down the nets. Jimmy V not only dreamed a dream, not only talked about the dream, but he also practiced the dream. And wouldn’t you know it in 1983, with what one might call many miracles he did exactly what he said his dream was. He won the National Championship. He fulfilled his dream.
I want us to look at the verse today again. Can I tell you what the word VISION means here. It means DREAM. “Where there is no dream, the people perish”. This worries me today Child of God, Church member, and Pastor. No one dreams anymore. Maybe you are too tired, frustrated, feel hopeless, or out of sync. Maybe you feel it doesn’t work anymore. But according to God it still works. We still need to dream. God wants to still give us the desires of our heart. Nothing is too big or too small. This should be a testament to every Christian. Having an ambition that only God can do reminds us that God is still there. Admit it, it feels good when something happens that only God could have done or given. We as the Church need to get back to having a dream again. Fill up that bus route, see more people baptized, more people saved than last year. Dream about those empty pews being full again, and the choir needing more room. What I am trying to say is it is a good thing to dream. Say it, practice it, and then watch it happen.
I have my dream that I have shared with God this week. Do you have one? It is simply time to dream again.
You don’t want the verse to say “Here there is no vision, the people perish. And to all that I say “Amen and Amen”.
