Is a Public Defender Good Enough?
We now live in an era where, through Jesus, God wants to reveal and manifest himself to the world. In this era, God’s manifested presence is not meant to be rare or uncommon. It’s meant to be poured out everywhere. It’s meant to be a regular occurrence for believers to experience His presence manifested among us.
All these things uphold our freedom in Christ and allow for us to experience God’s manifested presence. Until Christ returns let’s keep walking in these things and in our assignment to help as many as we can to find and experience the freedom we have in Christ.
In the Old Testament God revealed and manifested himself at different times, but generally it was limited to a few and limited to one nation – Israel. In the New Testament we see that through Christ, God has chosen to manifest and pour out His Spirit on all people, from every nation whether young or old.
Ever have them times when you feel so little in life. Even with the work that God gives you specifically to do. We have been discussing about finding God’s will for your life. Opening that closet door that every born-again person has. You have now made one of the best decisions of your life and God has shown you what He wants. You are now in the heat of the battle. The battle between good and bad. The battle to show a lost World that Jesus loves them. And He is the only answer. The problem is you feel like it seems so small. Like you can do so much more. For now, you are left wondering what if it was different. What if you made the wrong choice. I think these questions hit every person that makes the choice to open that door. Maybe you do not really like it. It seems there must be more than this. Are you really making a difference?
I was at a church preaching one time. I had preached that morning and was back that night to preach as well. In my preaching that morning I mentioned how much I love Mountain Dew. I had told the church about my desire to have a Mountain Dew swimming pool in my Heavenly mansion someday. I have asked God for this already many times. That night at church I walked in and sat in the front pew waiting to be called up by the Pastor. A young girl, probably about 12 years old or so, walked up to me and said “Preacher, I bought you something”. It was in a bag what looked like it was from a convenient store. I said thank you so much and joked around with her before she left. After she walked away, I looked in that bag and it was a nice 16 oz, 32.7-degree cold Mountain Dew. I was blown away at first that a young person even listened to me preach but this girl had done such a kind gesture. Now I was ready to preach. I was fired up. After the service her grandfather came up to me, she was living with them, and he said something to me I will never forget. He said “Preacher, my granddaughter insisted on the way to church tonight that we stop at a store and let her get you a cold Mountain Dew. Of course, we did that, but she wouldn’t let any of us go in with her. We even tried to give her the money to buy it, but she wanted to use her own money.
Now I am not going to lie, I had to sort of hold it together when he told me this. This young girl had remembered something that small. Small maybe to you and me but not to her. Why. Because she was faithful even in the small things. You know we all go through thinking that what we are doing is small, but it is not small to others. And it is certainly not small to God. How can God give us the big things if we are not faithful in the small things. Just be faithful. Your day is coming. A nice cold Mountain Dew may have been small to that young lady, but it was huge for me. So big that I wrote an entire devotion based on her. Thank you for bringing me that Mountain Dew. And thank you for loving the preacher.
