2 Timothy 1:13-14

IT’S ALMOST SUNDAY DEVOTIONS

13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Is a Public Defender Good Enough?

We now live in an era where, through Jesus, God wants to reveal and manifest himself to the world. In this era, God’s manifested presence is not meant to be rare or uncommon. It’s meant to be poured out everywhere. It’s meant to be a regular occurrence for believers to experience His presence manifested among us.

All these things uphold our freedom in Christ and allow for us to experience God’s manifested presence. Until Christ returns let’s keep walking in these things and in our assignment to help as many as we can to find and experience the freedom we have in Christ.

In the Old Testament God revealed and manifested himself at different times, but generally it was limited to a few and limited to one nation – Israel. In the New Testament we see that through Christ, God has chosen to manifest and pour out His Spirit on all people, from every nation whether young or old.

In the game of chess, you really have two main objectives. Protect your king and try to steal the other person’s king. These are the main pieces on the game board. Loss your king, lose the game. Such a simple yet complex objective that really resonates with our Christian life.

Recently, you have chosen to reveal what God intends specifically for you. We used the closet comparison, and we understand that God has a closet for each person. But it’s not until we are ready to open the closet that we can discover Gods will for each person. Now that door has been opened and we see the following…

I. Pursuing of Gods will – You chose to surrender to make God first in your life along with any choice He has for you

II. Practicing for Gods will – You are never going to get anywhere sitting on the bench. Being a starter is where all His children should be

And that brings me to the last point today.

III. Protecting in Gods will

The dictionary defines this as “To protect from harm or injury”

Chess games are doing this very thing. You are trying to protect the king at all costs. The apostle Paul is telling Timothy the same thing. He says, Timothy, you need to protect that in which God has given to you. Notice that word “Unto thee”. It does not say just to anyone. God is specific to the person. There are things that only YOU can receive and one of those is Gods will for your life. This is just one proof of how much God loves the INDIVIDUAL. When you start the journey of knowing and doing Gods will there comes times when it must be protected.

A. One way is from others. Believe it or not Non-Christians and Christians can stand in the way. Remember that the evil of this world does not want you to stand for what is right. He will use anything and anyone to come between you and what you have started. Sometimes it will feel like you are on an island and you are the only one. Seems like everyone and things are against you. But this is a blessing. You’re in good company. How many times did Christ feel that way when He was here. He was here to fulfill His Fathers desires. His closet contained dying for the sins of the entire world. Yet He was treated so badly. He went as far as to say, “Not my will, but thine Oh Lord”. I say again, it’s not about other people, it’s not about you, it’s all about our Savior and what He has already done for us.

B. Another way is to protect from ourselves. This is where we can get in our way. It is yet simple again. The sin in our life can wreck God’s plan. All it takes is the evil heart that is inside of us all to ruin it. Sin does not leave when we are saved. We do not become sinless but if you are truly saved you do have desire to sin- less. But through it all the truth is, we can be evil. Just look at the thoughts you have today. Or the fact that your Bible has set there today unopened or no prayers at all yet. If we give Satan “place” in our heart he will use even the smallest thing to get bigger. Before you know it, you have put your gift back into the closet and locked the door again.

I wonder how many of God’s people have messed up simply because they did not protect that closet, or His will. The good news 1 John 1:9 still exists for people who have. And for those who have not the above verse still rings true. Protect that in which God gives to you.
