James 1:22-25

IT’S ALMOST SUNDAY DEVOTIONS

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Is a Public Defender Good Enough?

We now live in an era where, through Jesus, God wants to reveal and manifest himself to the world. In this era, God’s manifested presence is not meant to be rare or uncommon. It’s meant to be poured out everywhere. It’s meant to be a regular occurrence for believers to experience His presence manifested among us.

All these things uphold our freedom in Christ and allow for us to experience God’s manifested presence. Until Christ returns let’s keep walking in these things and in our assignment to help as many as we can to find and experience the freedom we have in Christ.

In the Old Testament God revealed and manifested himself at different times, but generally it was limited to a few and limited to one nation – Israel. In the New Testament we see that through Christ, God has chosen to manifest and pour out His Spirit on all people, from every nation whether young or old.

A blonde is speeding and is pulled over by a blonde policewoman. She asks the driver for her license and she says, ‘What’s that?’

The policewoman says, “You know – it’s that squarish thingy with your picture on it”.

The driver digs in her purse, finds a small mirror, looks in it and then hands it to her.

The policewoman looks at it, gives it back and says, “OK, you can go. I didn’t know you were a police officer too”.

I know, I know. Last one. At least for a while. I could not help myself. I was lucky enough to preach to teenagers every Sunday for five years. And they loved my blonde jokes. No matter how dumb they were. Anyway…

Let’s get spiritual for a minute. We have been talking about the subject I’M ALL IN. Talking about the fact when we accept God in our lives he will present us with that closed door. Inside this door is His call for our lives. Something He wants just us to accomplish and do. He shows us this door and even shows us the keys to open this door. But until we commit to this door with all our heart, He will continue to hold the keys to that door. Romans 12:2 calls it the “good and acceptable and perfect will of God”. And the great news is we all have a closet if we are born again. But again, not everyone will ever make that choice to get the keys and open their door. How sad that is. Last week we talked about the word PURSUE. This is the act of following someone with the aim of catching them. In other words, we need to pursue after God with everything we have to “CATCH” what He has just for us. It all begins with having the heart to pursue that in which you want. And you will not stop until God gives it to you. Let’s focus today on our next point.

I’M ALL IN

I. TO PURSUE

II. TO PRACTICE – carry out or perform habitually or regularly.

Now this is where the rubber meets the road. You now have received the keys to your closet. You have opened the door and removed Gods will for your life. This is a great thing. Congratulations are in order. But it doesn’t stop there. Now it is time to PRACTICE Gods will. So many times, people find Gods will but then they stop. It was never put into practice mode. There are of course different reasons for this. Complacent is BIG. Giving up is HUGE. And what about Stopping because of OTHERS. You know it’s sad but other Christians can discourage faster than anyone else can. But we must remember why we do what we do. It’s all about God and no one else. Do not lose focus on the fact that Christ died for you. Not that church member, Sunday School teacher, deacon, song leader, bus director, or even your Pastor. You owe man NOTHING But God everything. We need more Christians to stand in unison and say “I work for God and with Gods help I am going to practice what God give me to do. No matter what life brings. If the clouds fall, I am going to practice. When the rain floods come, I am going to practice. And when Satan comes my way, I am going to practice”. We need more practice and less quitting. We need more people in the game than we have now. We have enough coaches; we have enough referees, we have enough spectators and we have enough bench warmers. What we need are starters, and you can’t be a starter if you’re not even there. So put your big boy pants on and get there and PRACTICE. You have come this far. You have accepted Gods call. You have said IM ALL IN. Prove it.

Done got me fired up. And to that I say, “AMEN AND AMEN”. Preach on…

Tomorrow is Sunday. Where will you be?
