Philippians 3:10

In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

“Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things”...

Some people are really into Christmas trees. Some households really get into it by having more than one. They can have one on each floor, one in each bedroom, or even one in every room. My daughter Madison is one of those people above. She cannot get enough of the Christmas tree festivities. Do not judge me! I know what you are already thinking. David, what have you done? I am already asking myself the same question. For Christmas this year I bought a dog for my wife. Yes, I said I BOUGHT. Purchased. Money exchanged. Get ready for the sun to fall from the sky. What was I thinking? If you know me, I am not an inside pet type of guy. Pets belong in any other house but mine. My wife has asked for a puppy for years just to hear me say “whatever.” And now I am left feeling like I am not myself anymore. What is happening? Does age really soften you up?

Is a Public Defender Good Enough?

I am more like the Charlie Brown Christmas type of guy. Give me a stick from a tree and I am happy. Who can forget that awesome cartoon with an actual story line? And who can forget my favorite Snoopy character, and how he turns into the Red Baron. Now that is a real Christmas movie.

We now live in an era where, through Jesus, God wants to reveal and manifest himself to the world. In this era, God’s manifested presence is not meant to be rare or uncommon. It’s meant to be poured out everywhere. It’s meant to be a regular occurrence for believers to experience His presence manifested among us.

All these things uphold our freedom in Christ and allow for us to experience God’s manifested presence. Until Christ returns let’s keep walking in these things and in our assignment to help as many as we can to find and experience the freedom we have in Christ.

In the Old Testament God revealed and manifested himself at different times, but generally it was limited to a few and limited to one nation – Israel. In the New Testament we see that through Christ, God has chosen to manifest and pour out His Spirit on all people, from every nation whether young or old.

This week I have spoken to so many people trying to get ready for next Wednesday. Christmas day. It seems like every year gets a little worse than the year before. It is a little harder every year to get into the Spirit of the day. People are just flat out grumpy, upset over not having loved ones here this Christmas, stressed because they cannot find or get the gifts that they think someone wants. Or even perplexed about the Christmas day meal.

This week I noticed something that I never had before. I sat down in our living room with all the lights off and I turned on our Christmas tree lights. Now realize that I cannot tell you the last time I did this. As I sat there in the dark, only the lights flashing, I began to take notice of our tree that my girls did such a wonderful job with. Lights, just enough. Ornaments, perfect. The star is awesome. And even better there are presents under the tree just for me.

But then it hit me like a sour Mountain Dew. I started from the bottom of the tree and my eyes went from the lowest point and then came to the highest part of the tree. And do you know what I noticed? My tree at the top pointed up! So please get this…

The tree starts out fully and then gets smaller all the way up till all that is left is one branch that is pointing up. My friend, I do not know if you are getting this the way that I did this week but the Christmas tree points toward Heaven, and who is in Heaven? Thats where our Saviour is. Up. Even our Christmas trees know what Christmas is about. God made his trees to point toward Him. Just as everything should. Read the verse again above. “It’s all about Him.”

So do not be sad, or even mad, but get glad because our Christmas tree reminds us that Christmas is all about Him. Go ahead. Just look at the Christmas tree.
