Is a Public Defender Good Enough?
We now live in an era where, through Jesus, God wants to reveal and manifest himself to the world. In this era, God’s manifested presence is not meant to be rare or uncommon. It’s meant to be poured out everywhere. It’s meant to be a regular occurrence for believers to experience His presence manifested among us.
All these things uphold our freedom in Christ and allow for us to experience God’s manifested presence. Until Christ returns let’s keep walking in these things and in our assignment to help as many as we can to find and experience the freedom we have in Christ.
In the Old Testament God revealed and manifested himself at different times, but generally it was limited to a few and limited to one nation – Israel. In the New Testament we see that through Christ, God has chosen to manifest and pour out His Spirit on all people, from every nation whether young or old.
This week was one of the most thought-provoking weeks for me in a while. I wish I could say this happens a lot but for me to say that would mean I would have to lie. And preachers don’t lie. We just exaggerate a little every now and then. It was one of them weeks that you just start to think about things. Both past and future. I did something this week multiple times that I think you would be proud of. I would stop and let traffic out in front of me on the road. Now wait, the world is not ending, at least I don’t think so. I think I even feel ok today. No temperature, no hives, or even high blood pressure. I feel just fine. But I agree. This does not sound like me. But it happened. And it happened numerous times. There were two sets of people I saw during my act of kindness during this time. There were those who would not even acknowledge that I let them out in all that traffic. Almost like it never happened, and then there were those who would throw up a hand in gratitude. As if to say “David, you are awesome. Thank you”. There was even one man in a truck that had blacked out windows you could not see in, and he rolled down his window to make sure I saw he was thankful. And he had the crank windows, not the electric. In other words, he wanted to make sure I saw that he acknowledged my gesture.
What kind of world are we living in today where no one seems to care about what others do for you. That kind word delivered, helping a neighbor with something, maybe that financial support that someone gives. Have we as a nation and as God’s creation lost the desire to see the good right in front of us? All we want to see and hear is those things that are bad. Don’t believe me, just listen to the news today. You may find five minutes of something good. We simply put are a generation of ungrateful humans existing for the sole purpose of our own comings. We make ourselves number one.
All that brings me to my thoughts this week. God sure has been good to me. Did you hear that? Please let me say it again maybe a little different. God sure has been good to me. I owe Him so much. If I just take the time to think about it, my life since God saved me has had so many more good days than bad. But sometimes I reflect way too much on the bad things. This week I have started naming to God all those things that I am thankful for. And I’m nowhere near done. I’m going to need to continue this week. God has taken the life of an ordinary person and turned it into a blessing pot. I cannot even explain to anyone reading this how good God has been to me. I want the world to know that I am nothing but trash on the bottom of someone’s shoes but in the eyes of God I am the blessed and he is the blesser. And why does he do this? Because he loves David Aldridge.
So maybe today and this upcoming week, let’s all focus on the one man that rolled down his window to make sure that I saw his thankfulness. Let’s forget about the ones that did not. I don’t know who this man was, but he showed me some things that I need to remember. And for that I am thankful.
Maybe today roll down the window of your life and use the hand crank to do it. When is the last time you spent time saying, “THANK YOU”.
