Philippians 3:13
ITS ALMOST SUNDAY DEVOTIONS
I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,”

Oh, the game of golf. You either love it, or you hate it. As for me, I love it. Unbelievably it is one of the most relaxing things that I personally can do. The smell of green grass, the excitement that comes with hitting something, and it is legal to do so. And of course, the competition of being better on any given day than the people that are playing with you. Unless you are playing with my father-in-law who likes to cheat of course.
Is a Public Defender Good Enough?
But I must admit that this game can sometimes bring out the worst in a person. Sometimes that little white ball does not go where it is supposed to. Sand trap, water, or even into someone’s window, house, or car. It is not prejudice. But of course, I do not do this. But I will tell you a secret if you promise not to repeat. I have certainly bent a club or two and even on one occasion threw my favorite wedge into the water never to be seen again.
We now live in an era where, through Jesus, God wants to reveal and manifest himself to the world. In this era, God’s manifested presence is not meant to be rare or uncommon. It’s meant to be poured out everywhere. It’s meant to be a regular occurrence for believers to experience His presence manifested among us.
All these things uphold our freedom in Christ and allow for us to experience God’s manifested presence. Until Christ returns let’s keep walking in these things and in our assignment to help as many as we can to find and experience the freedom we have in Christ.
In the Old Testament God revealed and manifested himself at different times, but generally it was limited to a few and limited to one nation – Israel. In the New Testament we see that through Christ, God has chosen to manifest and pour out His Spirit on all people, from every nation whether young or old.
But I am so glad that there is something in golf that we call a mulligan. What this means is you can simply say “I’m taking my mulligan” and you get a do over per say. Other words after that bad shot, you simply get another ball and club if it is in the water like mine, and you just take another shot. It is a do over as if it did not even happen. Normally you would get one mulligan per round unless you are my father-in-law who takes several.
This brings me to our verse today. Again, the Apostle Paul is writing. And as you notice he is speaking to us as Christians. He calls us Brethren. He reminds us about the grace of God. He says I am forgetting about the things of the past and I am moving forward and looking to the future. We should always be moving forward. Not backwards, or even sideways. It takes less energy to move forward and certainly less stress. Every week I would tell our Bus workers that I thank God for the week before but that is over now. It is time to look at this weekend.
I wonder how many people will dwell on this past year. The things that were wrong or unpleasant. Or how about this? The things that did not get accomplished last year. Child of God can I remind you that God dwells on the future. Not in the past. Forget those things that are behind and move into this year. You have another year to be Great, another year to accomplish something new. One of the things that I hear often while traveling to different churches is the fact of what used to be in their church. Last time I checked God is still alive and well. He is still seated in the Heavens above and our God still controls all. What used to be can be again, and what has never been can be seen by every one of his children and this world. God still wants to be the future of our lives. Let God be God this year.
So go ahead. Do not get mad, just take a mulligan. Let us have a do over.
